Tambuli - Vol 12, No. 5

Message From The Vicar

Greetings! Once again we are in the Season of Advent and are looking forward to the birth of Jesus this Christmas. The Church invites us to dedicate this time as a time of preparation and celebration of the great event in our salvation history: God becoming man to share with us fully His divine life! However, more than ever, we are challenged to make this mystery of the Incarnation a reality in our individual lives and society. Sadly the part of God in our human history and daily life is slowly being eroded by the thought that the mention of God in the public forum is to be avoided. The Christian values which brought to birth our noble nation are also slowly being assailed under the guise of fairness, freedom, sensitivity to all or the separation of Church and State. Some are making us believe that it is politically correct to say "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas". We are a nation under God. We are a nation that trusts in God! During this Advent and Christmas, let us really believe and act that God is important to our life and society. Jesus the newborn King must have the priority for us before the merry making, parties, reunions and shopping! After all, Jesus is the reason for the season! Our Filipino religious tradition of Simbang Gabi is a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas through Mary our Mother. Many parishes and our archdiocese are celebrating this novena of Masses before Christmas. Please find time to attend the Simbang Gabi with our fellow kababayans and friends!

We thank Archbishop Joseph A. Fiorenza for his dedication and pastoral care of the Filipino community, especially in the celebration of the Archdiocesan Simbang Gabi. Since the beginning of our Archdiocesan Simbang Gabi in l993, Archbishop Fiorenza has been always our main celebrant and homilist. Maraming salamat po, Archbishop! And also to all of you, my heartfelt gratitude for the support of the Filipino Ministry! Maligayang Pasko at Masaganang Bagong Taon!
